Dumfries sex attack: police make renewed witness appeal

Police have made a renewed appeal for witnesses to a "horrific" sex attack on a woman walking home from a night out in Dumfries.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning near Cargenbridge.

Det Ch Insp Stevie Carr said such assaults were rare in the region and his team was "working hard" to identify the attacker.

He said he was sure the public had information to help the inquiry.

"I want to hear from anyone who may have used the A711 late on Saturday night or into the early hours of Sunday 9 September," he said.

"We understand that a number of vehicles, including taxis, used that road through this period of time as people made their way home after a night out.

"I feel they hold the key as to who may have been about in the Cargenbridge area at that time.

"The smallest piece of information might just be the one piece that helps us catch this dangerous offender."
