Castle Douglas laser pen light shone at aircraft pilot

Police are investigating after a laser pen light was shone at a plane flying 8,000ft above south west Scotland.

The light aircraft pilot reported the incident at about 20:10 on Thursday in the Castle Douglas area.

Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary was informed but a search by their officers failed to find the culprit.

A spokesman described it as a "reckless" and "potentially dangerous" act and appealed for any witnesses to contact them.

They are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen any suspicious behaviour near the A745 road at the time.

It is understood the pilot was the only person travelling in the light aircraft.
