Father locked son, 7, in garage

A father who locked his seven-year-old son in a dark garage containing items including a loaded rifle has been jailed for a year.

The Stranraer man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted wilfully ill-treating the youngster.

He also admitted initially telling police the boy was safe and with a friend.

Dumfries Sheriff Court heard the incident happened after the man had fallen out with his wife in September.

The court was told there was also a nail gun in the garage and the boy had been told not to answer if anyone came by.

The man also pled guilty to behaving in an abusive manner by making telephone calls and sending text messages to his wife and repeatedly making threats of violence towards her and her family.
