Minor earthquake recorded near Hawick

A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 1.8 has been recorded near Hawick in the Scottish Borders.

The British Geological Survey said it struck at 10:13 on Wednesday about nine miles west of the town.

There are roughly 200 to 300 quakes in Britain every year, but the vast majority are so small that they go unnoticed.

However, between 20 and 30 are over 2.0 magnitude which can be felt over a wider area.
