New Borders school site selected

A preferred site has been selected for the construction of a new school in the Scottish Borders for children with complex physical needs.

Councillors have backed plans to build the £1.6m centre on the former Earlston High School site.

They were told an alternative option at Galashiels Academy did not meet requirements.

Early designs have been drawn up for the new building and it is hoped that work can get under way next year.

Up to 40 children from across the Borders will be educated at the new school.
