Police probe theft of live electrical cables

Police are appealing for information after two thefts of live electrical cables from overhead lines in Dumfries and Galloway.

Cable worth more than £1,000 was cut down and stolen on the Lockerbie to Langholm road just outside Lockerbie.

The incident occurred some time between midnight on Wednesday and 06:00 on Thursday.

A similar theft of a shorter length of cable occurred at a house in Waterbeck at about the same time.

Police said it appeared the thieves had used a ladder and some sort of insulation material to carry out the theft.

A spokesman said: "They have obviously come prepared to get this stuff rolled up and take it away."
