Hawick heroin dealer Alexander Higgins handed jail term

A drug dealer from Hawick has been jailed for four and a half years after admitting being concerned in the supply of heroin.

Alexander Higgins, 42, had been due to stand trial at Jedburgh Sheriff Court but changed his not guilty plea.

The court heard the offence took place at a house in Hawick between March 2011 and January last year.

Sheriff Derrick McIntyre imposed a five-year prison sentence, reducing it on account of the guilty plea.

Higgins' brother Joseph, 45, also of Hawick, had a not guilty plea to being concerned in the supply of heroin accepted.

He was fined a £750 for possession of heroin and another £250 for making racist remarks to a doctor at Hawick police station on 12 January last year.
