Galashiels construction contractor shot by air weapon

British Transport Police are appealing for information after a construction worker was shot by what is thought to have been an air weapon pellet.

The incident happened at about 09:30 on Tuesday near Hillside Drive and Edinburgh Road in Galashiels.

The 33-year-old worker suffered a minor arm injury which required him to attend hospital.

PC Steven Johnstone described it as a "pretty stupid act which could have had serious consequences".

He urged anyone who was in the area at the time and had information regarding those responsible to contact the BTP "as a matter of urgency".

Major transport construction work is currently ongoing in the Scottish Borders to reopen a rail link between the region and Edinburgh.
