Dalbeattie Forest search called off

Missing man search The search operation involved police, forestry workers and members of the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team

A search has been called off for a man whose car was found abandoned in Dalbeattie Forest.

Police said other lines of inquiry were now being followed to trace the man.

Concerns were raised after the vehicle was left parked for several days in the woodland near the Seven Stanes mountain bike trail.

It prompted a search operation on Monday afternoon involving police, forestry workers, and members of the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team.

GMRT team leader Mike McCann, who co-ordinated the search, said: "The police were anxious to trace the driver of the car to ensure he was safe and well.

"We carried out a systematic line search in the forest working out from the location where the car was found.

"We stood down the search at 8.30pm and the police will continue their inquiries to trace the driver."
