Life ban for over-limit bus driver

A bus driver caught on the A74(M) in Dumfries and Galloway at three times over the drink driving limit has been banned from the road for life.

Manuel Salvante-Antello, 66, who had a record of drink driving, was also fined £4,300 at Dumfries Sheriff Court.

Sheriff George Jamieson said the fine would have been £5,000 but for his plea of guilty to the offence.

Salvante-Antello, from London, admitted committing the offence near Kirkpatrick-Fleming in August.

The court was told that he had been heading from London to Edinburgh to pick up passengers and had none on board at the time.
