A woman has died in a three-vehicle crash on the A75 Dumfries bypass.

The road has been closed following the incident, which took place shortly after 13:00 between the Edinburgh Road and Cuckoo Bridge roundabouts.

The crash involved an articulated tanker, a Volkswagen Tiguan and a Ford Ka.

Anyone who was driving in the area at the time and who witnessed the crash has been asked to contact police with information.

The road at the scene was expected to be closed for "some considerable time" to allow for a full crash investigation to take place.

Diversions have been put in place which take traffic through Dumfries town centre.

Significant delays are likely in and around the area.
