NHS maintenance backlog highlighted
NHS Dumfries and Galloway has one of the largest maintenance backlogs for hospitals and other health facilities in Scotland, according to a new report.
However, the NHS Assets and Facilites report credited the health board with having an ambitious strategy in place to tackle the issue.
The report said the total price tag for repairs and modernisation at NHS Dumfries and Galloway was £31m.
It said almost half of NHS buildings in the region were in need of work.
However, the health board was said to have ambitious plans in place to address the poor condition of the estate.
The strategy is based around the planned construction of a new £200m general hospital to replace the existing Dumfries Infirmary.
It is estimated that alone could eliminate most of maintenance backlog costs.
