Black van sought after Southwick house jewellery theft

Police are trying to trace a black van with darkened windows after jewellery was stolen from a house in Dumfries and Galloway.

The incident happened some time between 10:50 and 18:00 on Tuesday in the village of Southwick near Dalbeattie.

Jewellery worth more than £3,000 - including a number of rings - was taken in the raid.

Police are trying to trace a black Astra van with two men inside which was seen in the area at about 18:00.

There have been a spate of jewellery and cash thefts in the region in recent weeks.

The public has been urged to report any suspicious activity around properties immediately and also take extra care if leaving a house empty.
