The Earl and Countess of Wessex have officially opened the historic Dock Park in Dumfries after a £2m project to revitalise the area.

It is one of a number of sites across the south of Scotland being visited by the royal couple.

The regeneration of the Dock Park was financed through a combination of Heritage Lottery funding and investment from Dumfries and Galloway Council.

It has involved the restoration of the park's key historic features.

New facilities, including a colourful children's play area and a Peter Pan-themed mini golf course, have also been put in place.
