Attack on Annan schoolgirl, 14, probed

Police are investigating a "totally unprovoked attack" on a girl as she walked home from school in Annan.

The incident happened at about 15:50 on Friday on the footpath between Prestonfield Road and Hospital Road past the Springbells Industrial Estate.

The girl was approached by a man who grabbed her and punched her in the face "a number of times".

She managed to escape with cuts and bruises and did not require medical attention.

The attacker has been described as 5ft 9in tall and of medium build.

He was wearing a dark hooded top or jacket with the hood up and dark blue jogging bottoms with stripes on the legs.

Police said the man also smelled of cigarette smoke.

Anyone with information about the attack has been asked to contact Annan police.
