A police report into the death of a man whose body was found in a burn in Dalbeattie has prompted moves to improve lighting in the area.

Some £15,000 has been earmarked by Dumfries and Galloway Council to install new lights in Colliston Park.

The body of local man George Paterson, 69, was recovered from the burn in November.

He had been out walking a dog prior to his death. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.

According to a report to the council's economy, environment and infrastructure committee there was no suggestion a lack of lighting in the park was linked to the tragedy.

However, Police Scotland said it made the subsequent search of the area difficult.

The council said the issue of lighting in Colliston Park had also been raised by locals, and that plans have been drawn up for the installation of new street lamps.
