Johnstonebridge man fined over Paris shooting Facebook post

A man who made offensive comments about Muslims in the wake of the Paris shootings, has been fined and ordered to carry out unpaid work.

At Dumfries Sheriff Court, John Wilkinson admitted posting the grossly offensive messages with derogatory and abusive comments on Facebook.

The 36-year-old sawmill worker, of Johnstonebridge, was said to be angry about recent atrocities.

He referred to the attacks in France and the beheading of a British solider.

Sheriff George Jamieson said Wilkinson had stepped across a fine line with words which were particularly offensive.

He was fined £200 and made the subject of a community payback order with a condition he carry out 50 hours unpaid work.
