The fourth edition of the Big Burns Supper festival is under way in Dumfries with an extended schedule.

The programme of music, theatre and comedy now runs for nine days until 31 January.

Among the acts taking part this year are Hue and Cry, Nina Nesbitt, The Undertones and comedian Craig Hill.

One centrepiece will be a street carnival which will see a lantern procession through the heart of the town.

It is designed to tie in with the Unesco 2015 Year of Light and organisers hope 2,000 people will take part on Sunday.

The festival has once again seen the installation of the Spiegeltent venue in the car park next to the Loreburn Hall.

It promises "the chance to experience something quite magical" on every day throughout the event.
