More than 1,000 tonnes of pate could be produced at a Dumfries and Galloway factory annually, following the opening of a multi-million pound extension.

The building has almost doubled the size of the Castle MacLellan base at Kirkcudbright.

A spokesman for the firm said it was expected to lead to a 50% increase in production.

The £5m extension will be officially opened by senior executives from parent company Kavli Holdings on Friday.

The pate manufacturer was established more than 30 years ago and employs 85 staff all year round.

The company said the expansion would create new job opportunities.
