Hawick greyhound kennels blaze 'suspicious'

Police are treating a fire which destroyed a shed attached to racing greyhound kennels in the Borders as "suspicious".

The incident happened at about 19:00 on Sunday at a property on Hamilton Road in Hawick.

The shed and its contents were completely destroyed but the dogs escaped unharmed.

Police have urged anyone who can help with their investigation to come forward.

Ch Insp John Scott said: "This was a deliberate attempt to cause significant damage and which could have resulted in serious injury to the animals.

"We are keen to hear from anyone with information that can help us trace those responsible."
