Blaze in greyhound shed in Hawick was 'callous'

A fire which destroyed a shed attached to racing greyhound kennels was a "callous" act, according to police.

They have renewed their appeal for information about the incident at a property on Hamilton Road in Hawick on Sunday.

The shed and its contents were completely destroyed but the dogs escaped unharmed.

Sgt Robbie Noble, of Police Scotland, said it was an "unusual" crime for the area.

"It's unusual in the Borders and the Hawick area in general, particularly when it's targeting animals," he said.

"People down here are usually not that callous."

He urged anyone with information to contact the police.
