Police have revealed that a Dumfries and Galloway man has been conned out of more than £20,000 in a betting scam.

The scheme started in February when the 67-year-old was contacted by someone in Stafford asking him to place bets in return for a commission.

Initially he made a profit but this drew him in to handing over large sums of cash which have now been lost.

The victim of the scam has since been unable to contact the instigator of the scheme.

Police want to hear from anyone else who may have been approached to get involved in a similar betting proposition.

They warned about the dangers of getting involved in "easy money" schemes and added that if an offer seems too good to be true then it probably is.
