Thornhill road crash victim named as Robert Patterson

A man who died after he was struck by a car near Thornhill in Dumfries and Galloway has been named.

Robert Patterson, 49, from nearby Carronbridge, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on the A76 on Monday.

A police spokesman said he was struck by a Honda Accord being driven by a 26-year-old man from Dumfries.

He appealed for witnesses who were on the road where the accident happened at about 01:10 on Monday.

The road between Thornhill and Carronbridge was closed for about eight hours following the crash and a 40 mile diversion was put in place.

The procurator fiscal has been informed.
