Police probe Lochmaben Amateurs assault

Police have launched an investigation into the assault of a footballer at an amateur match in Dumfries and Galloway.

The 32-year-old suffered a broken bone in his face during the off-pitch incident near the end of the game.

He was playing for Lochmaben Amateurs in their home clash with Chapelhall Thistle when the assault happened on Saturday.

A police spokesman said the incident happened at the side of the pitch and involved a number of people.

He said: "As a result the victim received what was described as a punch."

The victim, who is from Dumfries, went to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where he was found to have fractured a bone in his face.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
