Rare violins stolen from Dumfries home

Four rare violins worth thousands of pounds have been stolen from a house in Dumfries.

Police said one of the violins dated back to 1890 and another was from 1940.

They were taken from a house in Dalbeattie Road at some point between last Monday and Friday while the property was empty. Their value has been estimated at about £5,500.

A mandolin valued at about £800 and a banjo worth £600 were also stolen in the incident.

Police want to hear from any witnesses or anyone who has been offered an instrument for sale.
