Dumfries and Galloway taxi drivers to meet councillors
Councillors in Dumfries and Galloway have agreed to meet taxi drivers to discuss proposals to improve their service.
A "knowledge" test, a dress code and stricter medical standards are among a range of planned improvements mooted for professional drivers in the region.
They may also be invited to prove their English language skills.
Taxi and private hire operators and other interested groups have been consulted on the plans.
Councillor David McKie, who chaired a meeting of the civic government licensing panel that discussed the proposals, said they wanted to work with the industry.
"It's not a case of forcing things on to them," he said.
"We are going to discuss it with them and obviously we hope that... they will agree with our proposals."
