Scottish Borders Council approves fresh round of retirements
Scottish Borders Council has agreed a second round of early retirements in the space of a month, taking annual savings to more than £500,000.
A first round saw it agree to let six staff leave in a move designed to cut £274,000 from its yearly spending.
The latest move will produce £228,000 of savings with a further 10 employees allowed to leave.
The deals have one-off costs of more than £650,000 but that should be recovered in less than 18 months.
