A planning application for a £1.7m sports pitch project in the Borders is set to be officially withdrawn.

A petition gathered hundreds of signatures against the scheme in Victoria Park in Peebles.

Scottish Borders Council is set to withdraw the application at a meeting of its executive on Tuesday.

Talks are ongoing with Sports Scotland to extend the deadline for delivery of the project. Tweeddale councillors want to start the site search from scratch.

A report on progressing the consultation exercise on finding a new location will be brought before the June meeting of the executive committee.
