Police identify 87-year-old Peebles crash victim

Police have identified an 87-year-old man from Glasgow who was killed in a crash in the Borders at the weekend.

Robert Fleming Kerr died in hospital after the accident which happened on the A72 near Peebles at about 11:10 on Saturday.

He was a passenger in a Vauxhall Meriva heading east when it was involved in a collision with a Honda CRV.

The 71-year old driver of the Meriva remains in the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

He is being treated for neck and back injuries.

The 42-year-old male driver of the Honda was taken to Borders General Hospital before later being released.

Police said investigations were ongoing to establish the "full circumstances" of the crash.

Sgt Neil Inglis said: "We are still working to establish what happened to result in this collision and I would ask anyone who was on the A72 near Peebles at around 11:10 on Saturday morning to come forward if they remember seeing anything that can assist with our investigation.

"In addition, anyone with any further information relevant to this collision should also contact police immediately."
