Innerleithen man denies Peebles cyclist death charge

A motorist has denied causing the death of a cyclist in the Scottish Borders by careless driving.

Carl Lane, 75, was seriously injured in an accident on the A72 near Peebles in October 2014, and died in hospital six months later.

William Stewart, 54, of Innerleithen, appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court charged with the offence.

He denied the charge and a trial date was set for 13 September with an intermediate hearing in August.
