Cycling family spotted on motorway near Beattock

Police have been called out to escort a family of four off the A74(M) motorway in southern Scotland after they were spotted cycling on the hard shoulder.

They received a number of calls from members of the public who had seen the two adults and two children heading south near Beattock.

It is believed the family is from outside the UK.

A police spokesman said they were being taken off the motorway and on to a "safer route".
