Easter Langlee waste transfer station plan rejected
A £5.5m waste transfer station plan in the Borders has been rejected.
Scottish Borders Council's own planning committee voted down the local authority's bid to build the facility at Easter Langlee near Galashiels.
Councillors voted 5-2 against the bid on road safety grounds - despite officials recommending approval.
The council now has to decide whether to lodge an appeal against the refusal decision, table amended plans, or find an alternative site for the facility.
Scottish Borders Council decided in August 2015 to close a landfill site in the area when it reaches capacity in 2018.
However, before that can happen a transfer station has to be up and running to prepare waste to be sent for disposal outside the region.
