A teenager has admitted spraying paint on the burial place of Scotland's national bard Robert Burns in Dumfries.

The vandalism took place in September in St Michael's churchyard and extended from the mausoleum to the doors of the church and gravestones.

Connor Smith, 18, of Dumfries, pleaded guilty by letter to painting the symbols.

Sentence was deferred until next month for his personal appearance at Dumfries Sheriff Court.
