A teenager who died in what police are treating as suspicious circumstances has been named.

He was 17-year-old Calum Lumb from Moffat in Dumfries and Galloway.

Emergency services were called out on Monday evening to an address in the town where the teenager was found unconscious.

He was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary but was later pronounced dead. A 15 year-old-boy has been arrested.

Police said investigations were at an early stage and officers remained at the scene in Moffat High Street.

'Tragic death'

Ch Insp Stephen Stiff said: "Officers are continuing to carry out inquiries in the Moffat area into the circumstances surrounding this tragic death, and we will continue our patrols around the town to provide reassurance to the local community.

"I can say at this stage we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this matter and the public should be reassured that their safety is a priority for Police Scotland.

"I would again stress that there is no danger whatsoever to the local community in the aftermath of this dreadful incident. Officers remain in position at the scene and will be for some time. A forensic examination of the property is currently under way."

Anyone with information has been asked to contact police.
