A76 reopens after gas leak near Kirkconnel

The A76 has reopened in southern Scotland after what police described as a "significant" gas leak.

The route was shut about one mile north of Kirkconnel in Dumfries and Galloway at about 16:00 on Tuesday.

It remained closed for several hours as work continued to trace the source of the leak and tackle it.

Police said there had been no danger to the public and confirmed that the route, which leads to New Cumnock, had now fully reopened to traffic.
