Police offer Montrose pubs metal detectors

Tayside Police have offered pub and clubs in Montrose the chance to use metal detectors to help reduce crime.

Many premises across Scotland already use hand held devices to check for those carrying knifes or other weapons.

Pc Derek Mitchell, a community liaison officer, said the ability to search for weapons gives "peace of mind to staff and customers".

He added: "The premises they are visiting are taking steps to minimise opportunities for violence."

Pc Mitchell said it was vital to provide "a safer, enjoyable experience during the late night economy".
