An Aberdeenshire woman has won one of Scotland's most prestigious music prizes.

Nicola Auchnie, from Turriff, won the Glenfiddich Fiddle Championship, which was held at Blair Castle in Perthshire.

Maggie Adamson, from Shetland, came second and Graham MacKenzie, from Inverness, took third place.

Ms Auchnie said it was a "fantastic honour" to have won the prize. On Saturday, Angus MacColl, from Oban, won the Glenfiddich Piping Championship.

The piping championships began in 1974 and the fiddle contest was added in 1989.
