Parents injured in A9 road accident

The parents of a five-year-old boy and three-year-old girl have been taken to hospital after a crash on the A9 in Perthshire.

The couple, both aged 39, were travelling in a blue Peugeot 406 with their two children when the car left the road and hit rocks near Calvine.

The man, who was a front seat passenger in the vehicle, was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

An ambulance took his wife to the same hospital. The children were unhurt.

Tayside Police said the couple both sustained serious leg injuries in the crash, which happened at about 1240 GMT.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The A9 was closed in both directions for a short time while emergency services worked at the scene. It has since re-opened.

Police have appealed for witnesses who saw the car prior to the collision to come forward.
