Crieff schoolgirl 'offered lift' by stranger

Police are searching for a man who offered an eight-year-old girl a lift as she was walking to school.

The girl was on her way to Crieff Primary School at about 0845 BST on Monday when the driver of a small red car stopped and spoke to her.

She declined the lift and ran off to school, Tayside Police said.

The man - thought to be in his 40s - approached the girl on Leadenflower road, near the car park. His car was described as "rusty looking".

A Tayside Police spokesman asked the man to come forward "to establish the circumstances of the incident". They also appealed to anyone else with information to contact them.

The driver is described as having a brown and grey spiky beard, no moustache and was wearing a blue cap.

It is thought he may have had a dog - possibly a collie or Alsatian - in the back of his car.
