A local authority has pledged to reduce the amount of building industry waste sent to landfill sites by half.

Perth and Kinross Council said it was aiming to cut down on the construction, demolition and excavation waste currently sent to landfill.

The commitment applies to any building or refurbishment contracts carried out by the authority , along with its suppliers.

The council is the second to sign up to the initiative in Scotland, after Fife.

A spokeswoman said the authority was aiming to recycle a minimum of 75% of construction materials, 85% for demolition and excavation and 10% during new-build and refurbishment work.
