A 10-year-old girl has lost her right foot after falling under a mower at a farm in Perth and Kinross.

Police said it appeared the girl was walking alongside a tractor pulling a lawn mower trailer at Mains of Murthly Farm in Aberfeldy when she slipped.

A local doctor was able to give her first aid, but her foot had been amputated by the mower blades.

Tayside Police said they were called to the farm after 11:00. The girl was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital.

A police spokesman said: "Her condition is currently described as serious but not life threatening.

"As with all industrial accidents the Health and Safety Executive has been informed and a representative will be attending to carry out their own inquiries."

Mains of Murthly Farm is about 1.5 miles from Aberfeldy, and close to the town's distillery.
