Police searching for a missing camper in the Trossachs have recovered a body in a river near where he was last seen.

David Donnelly, from Denny, near Falkirk, was last seen late on Friday evening at a makeshift camp near the A84 between Strathyre and Callander.

Mountain rescuers, search dogs and police divers were involved in the hunt for the 37-year-old.

Divers from the Central Scotland Police Underwater Search Unit found the body in the River Leny.

A Central Scotland Police spokesman said Mr Donnelly's family had been told about the discovery but a formal process to identify the body was still being carried out.

Police were concerned about Mr Donnelly as he was unfamiliar with the area and was not equipped for being outdoors.

They said his disappearance was "out of character".
