A 36-year-old man has been charged over a fatal stabbing in a Perth Street on Tuesday evening.

The man, who has not been named, was arrested in the centre of Perth on Wednesday afternoon.

He was charged over the death of Sandy Kelly, 26, who was found seriously injured in the town's Bute Drive at 18:30 on Tuesday.

Mr Kelly is understood to have had a single stab wound to the chest. He was taken to hospital where he later died.

A report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal. Tayside Police said the man was expected to appear from custody at Perth Sheriff Court on Friday.

Mr Kelly's family issued a statement which said: ''Sandy was a much-loved son, brother, husband, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by us all.

''We are struggling to come to terms with the fact that he has gone and would ask that the family is left to grieve in private.''
