Tayside Police admits losing track of sex offenders

Tayside Police has revealed it has lost track of seven sex offenders registered to them.

Officers believe all seven are abroad. The force said "every effort" was being made to trace them "as a matter of urgency".

The sex offenders are missing from addresses in Dundee, Angus and Perth and Kinross.

The issue came to light after a Freedom of Information request (FoI) was made to Tayside Police earlier this year.

In response to the FoI, the force said it was pursuing "all possible lines of inquiry" in a bid to trace the sex offenders - including contact with "international policing agencies".

The report added: "Where enquiries fail to trace an offender, consideration may be given to a public appeal in an effort to trace the individual concerned.

"However, the decision to publicly identify a missing sex offender is not taken in isolation by the police."
