A 36-year-old man has appeared in court to face a charge of murdering his neighbour in the street outside their homes in Perth.

Stephen Christie is accused of murdering Sandy Kelly, 26, in Bute Drive by stabbing him on the body with a knife or similar instrument.

The attack is alleged to have taken place on Tuesday evening.

Mr Christie, of Bute Drive in Perth, made no plea or declaration. He was remanded in custody.

The case was continued for further examination after the accused's brief appearance in private at Perth Sheriff Court.

Mr Kelly was found seriously injured close to North Muirton Community Campus school and a few yards from his own home in Bute Drive.

Pupils at the school were kept indoors the day after the incident and officers spoke to several classes to ask if they had witnessed anything relating to Mr Kelly's death.

Mr Kelly, who had been married for about a year to Louise, was initially taken to Perth Royal Infirmary but died a short time later as a result of his injuries.
