Elderly Dundee woman robbed and beaten in home

An investigation has been launched after an 84-year-old woman was robbed and subjected to a "heinous" attack in her own home.

Tayside Police said a man had "repeatedly assaulted" the woman at the house in Stirling Street, Dundee, after he had forced his way in.

He is described as taller than 6ft and was wearing a hooded top.

The attack took place at about 21:15 on Saturday after the woman answered the door to the man.

The man also stole money from the woman before running off.

Tayside Police said they had launched a "major inquiry" involving uniform and CID officers after the incident.

Det Sgt Marc Lorente said: "This is a particularly heinous crime. Assaulting an elderly woman in her own home is unforgivable and any right-minded person would be disgusted by it.

"We have increased patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the local community and I would urge anyone with any information about the incident to contact us on 0300 111 2222 or speak to any police officer without delay."
