The second prisoner in two weeks has gone on the run from an open jail near Dundee.

Thomas McGarva failed to return to Castle Huntly following one week's home leave in Falkirk.

The 33-year-old is serving a 32-month sentence after being convicted of assault and robbery in June 2010.

His disappearance follows that of fellow inmate Samuel Stewart, who went missing for a week before being arrested in Edinburgh on Wednesday.

Tayside Police said McGarva was transferred to Castle Huntly in February.

As well as having friends in the Falkirk area, he has friends and associates in the Glasgow area and Edinburgh, police said.

The missing prisoner has blue eyes, 6ft tall and is bald.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact police.
