Man hit by car in Arbroath seriously injured

A 76-year-old man has been seriously injured after being hit by a car in Arbroath, Angus.

The man suffered broken legs and a head injury - as well as possible internal injuries - as a result of the incident, police said.

He was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee after the collision in Ernest Street at about 07:15.

The car involved was a silver Citroen Xsara. The 29-year-old woman who was driving was unhurt.

Tayside Police officers closed the road while an investigation was carried out, but it reopened at about 10:30.

A spokesman for the force said: "Inquiries into the full set of circumstances surrounding the incident are continuing and Tayside Police appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to contact them on 0300 111 2222, or speak to any officer."
