Carnoustie 'suspicious' death victim named

Police have named a 59-year-old man whose body was found at a house in Angus on Sunday.

The death of Samuel Anthony English, who was known as Tony, is being treated as suspicious.

His body was discovered at about 08:10 on Sunday morning at a house in Kinloch Street, Carnoustie.

Tayside Police said two people who were helping them with inquiries in the early stages of the investigation have since been released.

A post-mortem examination is expected to take place in Dundee later.

Detectives said they wanted to trace Mr English's movements on Saturday night into Sunday morning to find out where he went and who he was with.

Det Ch Insp Iain Wales, who is leading the investigation, said: "He was a well-recognised face in the town and we want to speak to anyone who saw him in the hours before his death.

''If anyone remembers seeing Mr English at the weekend whether in town or at his home address, alone or with others, they should call us as that information could assist the inquiry.

"Equally, if anyone was in the Kinloch Street area and saw or heard anything suspicious late on Saturday into the early hours of Sunday we would ask them to get in touch."
