Trial set for Perth fatal stabbing

A man is to go on trial in the New Year over a fatal stabbing in Perth in August.

Stephen Christie is charged with murdering Sandy Kelly in Bute Drive by stabbing him with a knife or similar instrument.

Mr Kelly, 26, was found seriously injured a few yards from his home close to North Muirton Community Campus school. He died later in hospital.

The trial is due to start on 30 January at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Mr Christie, 36 is also charged with the attempted murder of Murray Christie in Lewis Place, Perth, on 5 June.

He is alleged to have struck him repeatedly on the head and body with a blade.

And the accused faces another charge that he was concerned in the supply of heroin between April 1998 and December 2010.

The High Court in Glasgow was told that both defence and prosecution were prepared for trial.

The case is expected to last up to 10 days.
